Lectionary: 4th Sunday after the Epiphany
Sermon text: Mark 1:21-28
Excerpt: A shriek. A cry like an old engine on a steep curve slipping on the tracks. A sound of ten thousand long fingernailed teachers scraping a thousand blackboards. Bloodcurdling. Spine-shivering. Not a sound that one would expect on a Sabbath morning. But there in the midst of the synagogue in Capernaum was a man possessed by an evil spirit. And he cried out in reaction to the presence of the teaching of Jesus.
